OnStartups Review

gearheadStarted by Dharmesh Shah, OnStartups is a blog where startup business are discussed, though there is particular emphasis on software startups. Dharmesh shares that he started his first software company at the age of 24 and even calls himself a “professional geek.” Through his blog, he shares his accomplishments including the awards he’s earned, the success from the sales he’s made from the companies he has created and sold to others, and where he will hold speaking engagements.

Dharmesh also provides links to OnStartups LinkedIn and OnStartups Facebook which are two very popular social networks where professionals can communicate with each other to share their experiences and expertise in the field of software startups. You can become a fan of the OnStartups Facebook page and keep up with new updates and wall postings. Access to the “Become a Fan” button is available on the OnStartups.com Community tab.

Dharmesh Shah can be followed on Twitter and you can also subscribe to his RSS feeds that will provide you with immediate access to his blog entries which offer lots of information and tips on how to manage your online presence. One of his most recent entries is rich with examples about company site names that are easier to remember and are more meaningful than some of the site names people try to come up with when they want to be creative.

Dharmesh Shah was also one of the speakers in Startup Bootcamp, a one day event where aspiring entrepreneurs gathered in MIT to learn from successful men and women who have done well with their own startup businesses. Startup Bootcamp was offered for free and ran from 9am to 5pm and the speakers shared about how they started their companies and what entrepreneurs should look for when doing the same for themselves. The event was held on October 12, 2009 and if sponsored, could likely be held annually.
